Corpus Christi, Texas – Aug. 11, 2020 – The LyondellBasell Corpus Christi Complex is celebrating a milestone birthday by giving back to those who are on the front lines fighting the coronavirus in their community. To celebrate its 40th anniversary of operations and to pay tribute to those who are working so diligently to help those who have contracted the virus, the site has donated a supply of personal protective equipment (PPE) to CHRISTUS Spohn Shoreline Hospital.
“During times like this, it is more important to help those who are helping others than to celebrate a birthday,” said Alicia Matus, LyondellBasell Corpus Christi Complex site manager. “Safety is our overriding priority in everything we do at LyondellBasell and knowing how difficult it is to find these items right now, we knew it was the right thing to do to ensure our healthcare workers have additional supplies of PPE. We are proud to support our frontline healthcare workers who are doing so much to care for us during this pandemic.”
The site donated an assortment of PPE items to the hospital to shore up its supplies including coveralls, shoe covers, face shields, a variety of face masks and hand sanitizer. LyondellBasell worked with its established vendors to source the materials and recognizes Vallen Distribution and Seattle Glove for their efforts to reduce pricing and distribution costs for the donation.
“We thank LyondellBasell for this gift that will help protect our associates and patients,” said Karen Bonner, Vice President of Philanthropy for CHRISTUS Spohn Health System. “We are most grateful. You all are our heroes.”
In addition to the Complex’s 40-year anniversary, the gift of PPE to CHRISTUS Spohn Shoreline Hospital is also being given in honor of long-time LyondellBasell employee René Perez, who passed away recently. Perez was a Maintenance Technician who was a respected member of our team and had been with LyondellBasell and its predecessor companies since 1982.
