Both of our Lake Charles sites were excited to celebrate and support the launch of Phase II of #ReTreeLC with the City of Lake Charles and others in the community!
The City of Lake Charles announced the launch of Phase II of the #ReTreeLC initiative at a news conference on Thursday, October 27, 2022. #ReTreeLC is encouraging the sustainable and resilient replanting of trees throughout the City of Lake Charles in the wake of unprecedented natural disasters. Much of the tree canopy in Lake Charles was lost during the storms in 2020.
Since then, more than 2,500 trees were planted throughout Phase I, including trees that volunteers from our sites planted and nourished during the Global Care Day initiatives in 2021 and 2022. The efforts from both sites has been greatly appreciated by Mayor Hunter, The City and of course, the broader community!
The revitalization of Tuten Park, with support from the City of Lake Charles, through projects like planting trees, reviving flower planters, mulching the playground and cleaning up the educational center, has greatly contributed to the recovery of the community and the support of the #ReTreeLC initiative. This year’s Global Care Day projects focused on sustainability, helping reaffirm LyondellBasell’s commitment to Advancing Our Planet.
“We launched #ReTreeLC about a year ago, and it was a resounding success. We had so much positive feedback from the community, and thanks to our corporate sponsors we were really able to promote it and planted thousands of trees,” Mayor Nic Hunter said Thursday at the news conference.
In celebration of Louisiana Arbor Day, the city will be hosting a Community Tree Giveaway on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2023. The giveaway will give locals the opportunity to plant native tree species in their own backyard during a prime tree-planting season.
