As an active member, the LyondellBasell Morris Plant fire brigade proudly supports and participates with the Mutual Aid Box Alert System, (MABAS 15) to respond to large incidents in the area.
So when MABAS 15 called upon LyondellBasell for assistances in response to 200,000 lithium batteries, LyondellBasell jumped into action to help the industrial fire in Morris.
Over 3,000 people were evacuated from their Morris’ homes for three days.
Upon initial arrival, the LyondellBasell ladder truck carried 700 gallons of foam and an additional 540 gallons of foam in totes to help respond to the incident. Upon working with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), no foam was used on the fire.
In addition, the LyondellBasell fire truck was called back the next day as a request from the Morris Fire Department for use of the pumper truck to supply water.
“The Morris Fire Department was very grateful for our support and our involvement with helping the community,” said Jason Bush, Fire Chief at the LyondellBasell Morris Plant. “We were happy to assist our local fire departments in this large response effort.”
